Why is re:SearchGA necessary?

The search for court records and documents can be difficult to navigate. re:SearchGA is an easy-to-use website that provides secure, cross-jurisdictional access to electronic court records and documents throughout the state. Before re:SearchGA, access to statewide court information from a single, unified website was previously impossible.

In what states is re:Search available?

re:Search is currently available to varying roles in Texas, Illinois, New Mexico, and Georgia.

Who can access re:SearchGA and what data can they see?

In order to access re:SearchGA, you must be registered on either the eFileGA or re:SearchGA sites. If you already have an eFileGA account, you can sign into re:SearchGA with your same email address and password. If you don't have an eFileGA account, you can register for an account on re:SearchGA. The following roles can access re:SearchGA:

Attorney on the Case / SRL All of their cases and documents except for sealed items
Clerk Access to all cases/documents within their jurisdiction
Licensed Attorney All cases and documents not secured and not restricted, secured by the clerk, or filed as 'contains sensitive information'
Registered User All cases and documents not secured and not restricted, secured by the clerk, or filed as 'contains sensitive information'
How far back is data available?

Data and documents that were e-filed are in re:SearchGA from 10/1/2018. Additionally, local courts may choose to integrate their case management systems with re:SearchGA to contribute case data and documents that were not e-filed. In these instances, cases and documents contributed via the local courts could go back decades. The data in each court will vary on a court-by-court basis. What court case types are available?

At this time, re:SearchGA has all case types including criminal at select courts. At a high-level, adoption, mental health, and criminal case types are restricted to only be accessed by Attorneys of Record, SRL's, Judges, and Clerks. Does re:SearchGA have a complete set of every filing on every case in the database?

It depends by court. For sure, re:SearchGA will have all e-filed filings from eFileGA. However, filings that were done over-the-counter at the clerk's office may not be in re:SearchGA if the court hasn't integrated their case management system with re:SearchGA. Final orders and judgments may not be in re:SearchGA for the same reason. If you find a case in re:SearchGA and you expect to see more filings on it, click the "Expect to See More Filings?" button to see more reasons on why you may not see all of the filings you expect to see on a particular case. What does re:SearchGA cost?

re:SearchGA is free to all users. Beyond the basic functionality in re:SearchGA, there is also a set of advanced features designed to empower legal professionals. These value-added services are designed to assist legal professionals to become more informed, effective, and successful with key features like in-document text searching, the ability to search for specific key words within the body of the case documents, and case alerts.To learn more about subscribing to these advanced features, visit the pricing page.

How much does a document cost in re:SearchGA?

Document fees are collected on behalf of the local clerk where the case originates and distributed to the clerk. The clerks can set their own document fees. Some documents cost $2.50 for the first page, with subsequent pages costing $1.00 a page. Other clerks may charge nothing, or charge $0.50 per page. Attorneys of Record and SRL's are not required to purchase documents on their own cases.

What does re:SearchGA mean for court clerks, the traditional custodians of court records?

State and county governments benefit from re:SearchGA as an additional tool. By providing online access to public information while giving legal professionals advanced features to do their jobs, re:SearchGA gives the clerks an online platform to serve more constituents than is normally possible with their own locally available solutions. Additionally, tools found within re:SearchGA and made available through integrations with the clerks’ case management systems allowing the clerks to maintain control over case information, security, and other duties inherent to their role as a custodian of the court record.

Is re:SearchGA accessible to users with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities?

Yes. re:SearchGA follows the Section 508 Standards as prescribed by the United States Access Board and performs accessibility audits to ensure the solution remains in compliance.

Does re:SearchGA require me to download anything to use it?

No. The re:Search application is entirely web-based and can resize to fit any desktop or mobile device.

How does re:SearchGA ensure confidential information isn’t released to the public?

There are many safety mechanisms found in re:SearchGA to ensure confidential or protected information is not released to the public. First, users must register to use re:SearchGA and cannot access information without providing some general information about themselves and activating their account by verifying their email address. Next, the website has a security rules engine that ensures that only appropriate roles see certain case types. Also, documents that are e-filed as 'contains sensitive information' are appropriately marked as confidential in re:SearchGA. Lastly, integrations back to the counties themselves ensure that updates to security or removal of information that may already be on re:SearchGA is immediate and accurate.

What does re:SearchGA do to ensure that robots or malicious hackers don’t attack the system?

There is no way to stop all nefarious activities, but measures can be put in place to prevent successful attempts. The re:SearchGA platform adheres to standards for online security and data protection, and employs numerous mechanisms to block bots and challenge suspicious users within the user interface itself.

Can anyone search for information about anyone else in the state?

All of the case information and document accessible to the registered user role on re:SearchGA is public record and made available from the state and/or county in which the case information originated. State laws provide assurances that confidential or otherwise non-public information is not available online through the application.

Does re:SearchGA store credit card information?

No. Although users can create payment methods in the application, re:SearchGA does not store that information in compliance with PCI Data Security Standards.

How does the system properly verify that a user is the attorney they say they are?

When a user signs into re:SearchGA, we offer them the opportunity to claim an attorney record and secure access to their cases in re:SearchGA. There is a short but secure attorney verification process that the user must follow in order to obtain access to their cases in re:SearchGA.

If a person forgets to sign out of re:SearchGA, how does re:SearchGA protect against another person looking at that person’s screen?

When a user’s session has been inactive for a defined period of time, that session will be automatically ended and the user will be signed out of re:SearchGA.

What if someone leaves the clerk’s office? How is their access removed from re:SearchGA?

Clerk permissions and location case access in re:SearchGA is determined by the clerk’s role and location access in eFileGA. If a member of your staff leaves your office simply remove that user from your court users in eFileGA and that user’s access will automatically be removed from eFileGA.

What risks exist with courts utilizing re:Search for publishing online case information?

re:Search is currently offered as a statewide solution in three states, one state on a regional basis by participation of individual courts, and numerous other states are looking at how re:Search can help them expand access to justice. There are millions of cases, filings, and documents found in re:Search, all of which have been accessible to search and view. No known or reported illegal activities have resulted from re:Search being the frontline online portal for our customer base.
